The Synopsis The Legend Of Kinabalu

Long times ago, there was an Emperor of China dying sick. His two sons, Prince Wong Man and Prince Wong Long insists to seek the pearl somewhere at the Mountain as they heard there was a huge pearl can heal any diseases and make human become immortal. The pearl was guarded by a fierce Dragon. Their passion was unstoppable and the Emperor had to release them. The two brothers continued their journey in order to find the pearl for their beloved father.

Finally, they reached at the Mother Mountain. They climbed the mountain and found the pearl. However, the Dragon awaked and they had been attacked as they terror into the dragon keep. The two princes had a great fight battle with the dragon. They succeed to killed the Dragon, however Wong Long fallen into the ravine and Wong Man was too late to survived his little brother. Wong Long fallen into the ravine together with the pearl.

Tok Ukau and his follower found Wong Long in helpless. He brought Wong Long to his house and cure him. Tok Ukau had a beautiful daughter named Kina. Kina helped her father in treating Wong Long. After a week, Wong Long awaked and he had badly injured on his memory .He had an amnesia where he can’t remember his identity. Tok Ukau took decision to named him Bagan and Bagan became a part of Dusun’s family. Bagan started his new life as Dusun people.He learned the Dususn’s lifestyle and culture. Kina and Bagan were falling in love and finally Tok Ukau get them married.

Kina get pregnant and one day she craved for the bananas located at Bakas Village, few miles from their village. For his true love to Kina, he willing went to Bakas Village to get the bananas for his wife. Bagan went with Kibam. When they arrived there, they took rest under the banana tree and Kibam went to get some water. Suddenly, a bunch of bananas fallen onto Bagan’s head. Bagan felt spinning and pain on his head. Then, he finally recalls back all his memory. He asked Kibam to get home as he wanted to tell his wife.

Bagan arrived at home and told his wife everything. Bagan insists his wife to let him go back to China to settle everything with his family. No words Kina can say to Bagan only she promised Bagan, she will stay and waiting for Bagan forever. Bagan took his journey back to China and left his broken heart wife behind.

Kina finally delivered her son. After a year , there was no news about Bagan. Kina took a brave and heartbroken decision to wait her husband at the top of the mountain as they believed they can see the mainland of China and she can see Bagan from there. Kina brought her child and together climbed the Mother Mountain. Day by day, Kina keep standing there as she promised her husband she will wait forever. Finally , Kina became a stone and the Mother Mountain named Kinabalu as the remembrance of Kina’s love sacrifiction.

Scenes 1

The emperor of China fallen sick and his two sons insist to find the pearl as they heard it can heal any diseases and make human immortal. The Emperor released them for the pearl and even though they knew the pearl is guarded by a fierce dragon.

Scenes 2

The two princes started their journey and climbed the Mother Mountain. They finally arrived there and grab the pearl. However , Wong Long stepped on a branch and awake the fierce dragon. Two princes have a great battle with the dragon. Finally, they killed the dragon. Unfortunately , Wong Long fallen into the ravine and Wong Man is too late to rescue his brother.

Scenes3

Tok Ukau and his follower found Wong Long in helpless. He bring Wong Long to his house and cure him. Kina always helped his father in treating Wong Long. After a week, Wong Long awake and he lost his memory. Finally , Tok Uaku name him Bagan. Bagan start his new life as one of the Dusun’s family. He learn everything, the culture and lifestyle. He also falling in love with Kina and they get married.

Scenes 4

Kina is pregnant and one day she craves for banana located far from their village. Bgan and Kibam go for the Banana and it takes them a long journey. Wheb they arrive there , they take rest under banana tree while Kibam go to take some water at the river. Suddenluy , a bunch of banana fall onto Bagan’s head. Bagan feel pain on his head. Finally, he recall back all his memory and ask Kibam to get back as he want to tell his wife as well.

Scenes 5

Bagan tell Kina everything about himself. Bagan insists Kina for her permission as he want to get home back to China and settle everything with his family. With a broken heart, Kina let Bagan go. Tok Ukau and Kina send Bagan at the river port with a broken heart and Kina promised his husband to keep waiting for him.

Scenes 6

Kina deliver her son. After a year, no news from Bagan and Kina miss his husbamd so much. Finally , she takes her child and climb the Mother Mountain as she believe she can see her husband from the peak of mountain and keep waiting her husband. Day by day, nothing is coming up and finally Kina become a stone at the mountain.

Summary

Shooting a short film is quite tough task as we know we are not in major of Broadcasting.However , making short film is quite interesting and challenging our mentality and physical as a tourism student . There a few challenges we have to face in order to get a best shoot for our short film.

1.    Emotion – Emotion is the most challenging part where all team have to play their emotion based on the script or their role play. “Sad” emotion is quite challenging especially where Kina has to drop a tear to make the story feel real and authentic emotion.

2.    Script –Creating script also needs a lot of concentration where all the dialogues must be realistic even though is is only a legend story. Creating script and dialogues needs a lot of creativity to make the dialogues interesting and understand by the audience.

3.    Role Play and Characteristics– Creating a role play in the short fil also one of the challenge where all team has to play the created role to make the short film slive. Collecting actress and actor must be click with the role play characteristics to avoid any problems when shooting.

4.    Custom and Prop–Custom and prop also quite hard challenge where we have to find or create a custom and prop based on the story. The Emperor of China and the two warrior’s custom are quite challenging. We have to create something kind of custom which is exactly look alike with ancient of China and the prop too.

5.    Setting- We didn’t face a lot of setting problem where we decided to take shooting at Museum Sabah. Museum Sabah is complete fine to make our short film with all the material needed such as Dusun house, lake, ship, hill and else.

Role Play and Characters

1.    Siti Noraisha as Prince Wong Long and Bagan

-A prince who falling onto the ravine in order to get the Mountain Pearl. Get long amnesioa as the impaction fron fallen from the Mountain. Falling in love with Kina , leave her alone and never return to her.

2.    Oktymorine as Kina

-       Beautiful lady , live at Gana-Gana Village,help healing Wong Long and falling in love to him. Loyal wife and endless love towards her husband.

3.    Raisa as Prince Wong Man

-       Oldest prince together with Wong Long to get the pearl.

4.    Emilia Jan Jumin as Tok Ukau

-Head Chief of Gana-Gana Village and father to Kina. Tok Ukau is the person who found Wong Long and heal him.

5.    Christ Lorea as Kibam

-       Villager at Gana-Gana Village and one of Bagan friends.

6.    Jesvie as Fierce Dragon

-       A fierce dragon and guard the Mountain Pearl.

7.    Sharon Scandenaro as Emperor of China

-       A sick emperor and need the pearl to heal his disease.Father to Wong Man and Wong Long.

Introduction

Legend of Kinabalu is one of the famous folklore legend in Sabah. Kinabalu legend is one of the kadazan , Dusus and Rungus folklore story and it passé by from generation to generations , and they believe Kina’s spirit is still at Kinabalu mountain mourning sad for her husband.

The legend told the mountain get the name from the widow Kina who became a stone. She kept waiting with her son at the peak of the mountain . That was the spirit of her love, endless love towards and her loyalty as the Prince’s wife.

Long time ago ,in ancient  these ethnics  believed that they can seen someone from at the far distance at the peak of the Kinabalu. The belief brought Kina to climbed the Mounatain till the peak and wait for her husband until she  became a stone.

This legend will never fade away as we always believe this folklore can be one of Sabah’s culture and heritage forever.
