5th vocabulary entry

The meaning of each of the terms is :


1. Exposition

•  Exposition is about the background and setting explained at the beginning at the story. It may also explain what happened before the story began. It is introduced who is the character and where is the setting.

2. Rising Action

• Rising action is the part of the story that the story is the best to see and it has a lot of questions that makes the audience wonder asked. Audience certainly did not wait to see the peak of the story and eager to know the end of the story.H ere is contain one or more character that make the story best.

3. Climax

•  Climax is about the story is reach the peak, the point of highest emotion or tension,

4. Falling action

•  Falling action is the resolution of the character's crisis.

5. Resolution

•  Resolution is last of the story. The all loose and end tied up.

The story that I have choose is "Cinderella" story.

1.  The exposition of the Cinderella story is :

• Once upon a time, in a land far away, there lived a girl named Cinderella. She lived with her evil step-mother and her evil step-sisters.

    2.     The rising action of the Cinderella story is :

• Every day, the evil step-mother made Cinderella work all day long and into the night.
• One day, an invitation to ball was sent to all the young maidens of the kingdom, but the evil step-mother would not allow Cinderella to go to the ball and locked her in her room.
• Cinderella thought all hope was lost until her fairy godmother appeared.
• Dressed in a beautiful gown and glass slippers, Cinderella rushed off to attend the ball.
• As the clock struck 12, Cinderella ran away as fast as she could. Although Prince Charming looked for her, all he found was z glass slipper.

    3.     The climax of the Cinderella story is :

• Cinderella held her breath as Prince Charming gently slipped the glass slipper onto her foot. Prince Charming took Cinderella by the hand and made her his bride.

   4.      The falling action of the Cinderella story is:

• Cinderella went to live with Prince Charming in the beautiful castle on the hill.

    5.      The resolution of the Cinderella story is:

• Cinderella and Prince Charming lived happily ever after.

Story dialogue.

 Question 1.

A girl telling her housemate not to go 'clubbing' every night. 

Scene 1.

 At Jesecca house.- when Jesecca housemate named Farhana was getting ready go to the night club, Jesecca give her housemate an advise so that Farhana not go to the nigh club again. But Farhana don't want to hear her housemate words.

Jesecca : Hallo Far, you're looking nice tonight, where do you want to go?

Farhana : As usual, you already know right where I go when the sun went down like this.

Jesecca : Ohh...( tone was disappointed) I see. But don't you boring come and go from there everyday?

Farhana : That's my life friend, so why you busy any case..

Jesecca : I'm sorry if you think I'm busy to give you an advise.But, you cannot go to the place again, there is dangerous. Many boys that will take advantage of you..don't you fear.

Farhana : No. They is my friend. They always expense me. I like them.

Jesecca : Al right, if don't want to hear me, take care your self. If something happen to your self dont find me to help you. I'm trying to help you now, but you didn't hear me. Fine,  but don't think that all of your friends are good boy and good girl. Don't be easy to trust them, you should think what is the thing that you have to do better or not.

Farhana : Okey boss. Thank you for you advise..

4th reflection topic

Last year, I went to Centre Point Shopping Complex with my friend. We walk around the building and found an advertisement at the Ngiukee Shop. That time, I want to buy a fairness facial cleanser. But before I found the brand that I'm searching for, a promoter come to me and approach me the product. The name of the product is Safi toner. The promoter ask me to buy the product because she know that I'm using Safi fairness cream. She told me, that the product is good for my face and she also tell me the way how to use the product step by step. Actually I don't want to buy the product, but she make me confident to use the product and I buy the product finally. Then, when I use the product, it make my face feel cold and fresh. But I didn't use the product for long period of time because I don't want waste my money to buy the product again. For me, by using the fairness facial cleanser and the fairness cream is enough.

- This sentences means, a person want to tell the other person that her/his cloth is tear.

2. Fall

> Fall in love

- Means someone (boy) felling love and miss to girl.

3. Break

> Break it down

- Means someone ask her/his friend to separate his/her food and his/her food.

4. Stand

> Stand with me

- Means someone ask her/his friend to stand with her/his.

5. Keep

> Keep it carefully

- Means ask for someone to keep the gift carefully and cannot be missing.

6. Turn

> Turn to left

- Means a guide give guidance to a traveller of person that searching for a place that she/he want to go.

7. Pull

> Pull the rope.

- This sentences means a person ask someone to pull the rope.

8. Walk 

> Walk alone again

- This sentences means, a person want to tell the other person the she/he will walk alone again after her/his friend is arrived to her/his house.

9. Back

> Back to me

- This sentences means someone ask of begging her/his couple back to him.

10. Take

> Take a risk

- This sentences means a person that following an adventure activities should take a risk.

I choose this song because I like this song and I like the lyrics of this song. Other than that, I also take this song because of my felling to my friends that so hard to say. I want them to know that I always waiting for them, especially for them that I've not see for long period of time in my life.
Even though, they have  make me pain and make me hate them for a while, but they are success to make me miss them lastly.
now, I'm proud for some of them that success in their life and have between them that already married. When I heard that they already married I'm happy and desired to see their son and daughter.
Friend is very big of meaning in my life. Because without friend maybe I cannot be a woman that have positive thinking.
I miss the things we do together when we was a child. We are going to school together and play together, I miss that time. And I always pray for their happiness. Thinking about them, it was make me crazy to miss them and desired to see them.

The six swan magical story.

A king went hunting in the forest with his army, and were chasing a wild beast. But the king was too fast in front until the army can not be pursued. King was aware that he was lost and could not find a way out. The king then came across an old woman and a witch then asked for help to get out of the forest.

King :  Hello , old women. I'm lost my way . Can you help me out of this forest?

Sorceress :  Of course Your Highness. I'm already live here all of my life. But , before I help you , you must married my daughter or you will dead.

King :  Ehmmm .... aaaa ... okay. I will marry her.

The king had six sons and a daughter. They were not pleased with their stepmother because their stepmother always tried to kill them. The king decide to send all of his children in a forest to keep them save. But , the queen knew that their hiding place and convert the six prince to the swan except the princess name Sydnee. After that , the queen kill the king.

Sydnee :  Oh , my poor brothers. What can I do to reveal this curse?

The eldest :  My sister , if you really want to help us , there only one way to reveal this curse.

Sydnee :  So , what is it? Tell me!

Second brother :  You must make six shirts out of starwort for us.

Sydnee :  Okay! I will make it!

Third brother :  But , however, there are conditions to make it. You can't speak nor laugh to anyone for six years during you make a shirts. If you fail to comply with, all the work you                                         do will be wasted.

Sydnee :  Alright , my brothers! I will keep my promise to make a shirts for you and never speak to anyone nor laugh for six years!

In another kingdom , a young prince went hunting in the forest and meet Sydnee. The prince fall in love with her beauty and decide to take her as his wife. But , Sydnee always with her sew and never talk nor smile to her husband.

The prince :  My dear , can't you leave your sewed for a day for me?

Sydnee :  (... shake the head...)

The prince :  But , you can leave it to maidens to sew it for you. I really want to see you smile and talk to me.

Sydnee :  (...cry..)

The prince : It's alright. Never mind dear as long as you with me.

A few years later , Sydnee was pregnant and safely had given birth. However , when Sydnee stepmother heard about that issue , she came to visit and kill the newborn. On the other hand , the stepmother accuse that Sydnee had kill her own baby.

The prince :  Why dear? Is that true that you have kill our baby?

Sydnee :  (..silent..)

Queen : See? She doesn't want to say anything. That the fact and she must punished to be  burns alive.

The prince had no choice and he must be fair to do punishment.At the moment , Sydnee want to be punished , six years has come and her six swans brother came to help her while wearing their starwort shirts. They reform to be human again and tell the truth. The prince was very shocked and ask his army to release the flaming fire to the queen. The queen is not able to escape because the army was surrounded by a flaming fire and repeatedly released to her. The queen dead on the spot and Sydnee Become able to speak again.

The prince :  I'm sorry dear for what I have done to you.

Sydnee :  It's okay, I already forgive you.

And , they live happily ever after.

The adjective that found in the story.

1. Hunting

>> hunting means, a men go to a jungle and hunt animal or bird. It is always do by those person that like go to hunt.

2. Lost

>>this is mean, the king lost his way out in the jungle and he don't know where the way out is.

3. Across 

>>means the king be found the sorceress in the jungle while he want to search the way out.

4. Help

>> Means the king need the sorceress help to find the way out from the jungle.

5. Dead

>> Means a choice that the sorceress give to the king. 

6. Marry

>> Means the king have to be coexistence with the sorceress.

7. Keep

>> Means the king want to keep his sons in the jungle that he think a safe place but the sorceress know where they hiding.

8. Kill

>> Means an attitude is shameful.the sorceress want to kill the sons of the king.

9. Convert

>> Means the sorceress change Sydnee's brother to be swan.

10. Speak

>> Means talk to anyone. Sydnee cannot talk to anyone while she doing her job.

11. Lought

>>Means smile. Sydnee cannot lough to anyone while she want to complete her job.This is the condition of doing her brother cloth.

12. Make

>> Means doing something until finish. Sydnee make cloth for her brothers that the sorceress convert to swan.

13. Fail

>> Means cannot do the job better. If Sydnee fail follow the condition that her brothers give, her work is just wasting her time.

14. Promise

>> Means a declaration. Sydnee received the condition from her brothers.

15. Pregnant

>> Means bodied two. Sydnee was pregnant her husband child.

16. accuse 

>> Means someone else doing the work she did. the soceress said Sydnee was kill the son.

17.  Reform

>> Means Sydnee's brothers be a human again after they wear the cloth that Sydnee make for them.

18. Shocked

>> Means surprised. The king (sydnee's husband) shocked when he know the truth.

19. Sorry

>> Means someone request a forgiveness from us. 

20. Forgive

>> Means we must forgive someone that request a forgiveness so that our life is always happy.

1. Be down in the dumps

Meaning:

Be very sad and depressed.
If you are down in the dumps, you feel very sad and miserable. You don't have much interest in life.

Example:

Mary has been down in the dumps since her mother's death.

He looks a bit down in the dumps these days. Let's cheer him up.

She failed her exam and is down in the dumps.

(Not let the grass grow under someone's feet)

Meaning:

Act now without any delay.
If you say "Don't let the grass grow under your feet" to someone, you tell him/her not to waste time and to do something immediately.

If someone doesn't let the grass grow under his/her feet, he/she does something right now without waiting.

Example:

Now that you know what to do, act right away. Don't let the grass grow under your feet.

A: Do you think the manager's already started to do something to solve the problem?
B: I believe so. He's the kind of guy who doesn't let the grass grow under his feet.

3.Cast pearls before swine

Meaning:

Offer or show something valuable, good, or beautiful to someone who does not understand its value
If you are casting pearls before swine, you are wasting your time showing or offering something very helpful or valuable to someone who does not understand or appreciate it.

Example:

Don't bother explaining Shakespeare to Bob. It would be like casting pearls before swine.

Tom wouldn't listen to Sarah's wise advice. She was just casting pearls before swine.

4.Bite off more than one can chew

Meaning:

To try to do something that is too difficult

If you bite off more than you can chew, you try to do more than you are able to.


Example:
She has bitten off more than she can chew again. She has agreed to finish 3 very difficult projects by the end of this year.

Do your best. Do whatever you can, but don't bite off more than you can chew.

5.Race against the clock / time 

Meaning:

Work or do something very fast to finish it before a deadline

If you have a situation in which you have to finish doing something very quickly by a deadline, you call that situation a race against the clock / time.

Example:
They started a race against the clock to finish the interior of the new store that was scheduled to open in a month.

The engineers worked 15 hours a day to complete the new computer system by the deadline. It was really a race against time.

6.Put all your (my, their, etc.) eggs into one basket

Meaning:

Depend totally on one single person or course of action.

If you put all your eggs into one basket, you put all your energy and time to one thing or purpose. If it fails, you will have no other possibilities left.

Example:
I know you really want to go to BYU, but don't put all your eggs into one basket. Apply to a few other colleges too.

I'll invest my money in several companies, not this one only. I don't want to put all my eggs into one basket.

7.Be shaking like a leaf

Meaning:

Be shaking your body a lot because you are cold, nervous, or frightened

If you are shaking like a leaf, you are shaking a lot especially when you are very cold, nervous or frightened.


Example:The child was shaking like a leaf while he was meeting with the principal.

I went to a place in the city, and I didn't know it was one of the most dangerous areas there. After I heard 5 people were shot and killed on the same day in the same place, I was shaking like a leaf.

8.Great minds think alike. 

Meaning:

This is a humorous expression that is used when you found out someone else was thinking about the same thing as you were.

If you say, "Great minds think alike," you say, jokingly, that you and someone else must be very intelligent or great because both of you thought of the same thing or agree on something.


Example:
A: I'm going to the concert tonight.
B: Oh, really? Me too. I heard the performers are excellent.
A: Great minds think alike.
(A and B meet in a restaurant unexpectedly.)
A: How did you know I am here?
B: This restaurant is a very nice place to spend an evening. Great minds think alike.

Meaning:

1. Become very excited because a very good thing happened.

2. Become very angry

If you go nuts, you behave in an excited, crazy, or angry way.


Example:The spectators went nuts when she got 10.0 on her performance.

My dad would go nuts if he saw this mess.

10.Variety is the spice of life.

Meaning:

You use this proverb to say that if you do a lot of different things and meet different people, etc., your life becomes more interesting.

Having and experiencing a lot of different things is what makes your life interesting.

Example:

Variety is the spice of life, and there's a lot of it at the English Language Center. You can meet people from many different countries, and there are a lot of activities you can participate in.

question.. write your opinion in about 250 words about the meaning of the following idiom. Do you agree with the idiom? if yes, why? if no, also state your argument.
                                       " A picture speaks a thousand words"


Talking about a picture speak a thousand words, I'm agree with that. this is because, when i see a picture at my home or everywhere, i automatically know what the picture try to deliver to those person who see the picture.
     Then, every people those who see a picture, they can read the picture without an explanation from the picture. People can make their assumption or decision about the  picture that they see. A picture can tell us many story, from the environment in the picture, the face of the person in the picture, the colour of the cloth he or she wear.
     The conclusion is, a picture really speak a thousand word without taking thousand minutes to see a picture.
